The game of football is changing. Everyone loves watching a good shootout, but is that as effective as a good running game? With a good running game you can absolutely demoralize the other team. Get there confidence so low that they just wanna quit. Also, a good running game sets up your play action passing game. Just fake the run, send your tight end back behind the safeties, the safeties take the fake on the run, the quarter back sets his feet and throws it to his wide open tight end for a touchdown.
On the other hand, if you want a pass first offense a couple long touch down passes, that'll do the same thing except you'll be scoring without using up eight minutes off the clock. This also helps your offensive line with fatigue, not having to push other 280 pound guys 5 yards off the ball every play, instead just keeping him off the quarter back.
With the no huddle passing game, much similar to that run by the sheriff, Peyton Manning, you can have the opposing defense dead tired by the third quarter. But with a running game there are less pieces of the defense running around every play. Just mainly the defensive line and line backers. But with a passing game everyone is tired. With the safeties running all over the place, corners covering receivers, line backers covering receivers who are much faster than them, and defensive line trying to sack the quarter back. That sounds like a recipe for disaster for a defensive. Unless the defense runs a couple thousand yard sprints every practice, they will not be ready for a quick, no huddle, passing game.
Also everyone in the stands loves seeing the great catches, the long touchdown passes, the third and long situations that the offense barely squeaks it past the chains. If you are down by 3 touch downs at half time and you have a good passing game, that's no problem. In the same situation but you have a running game, that feat looks even more insurmountable because it takes 6 minutes off the game clock to score. I would argue that everyone is bored while watching the run game. Watching a team get 3 yards every play. Sometimes breaking a run for 10 yards. Oooo exciting. Not.
In my opinion the best type of offense is a fast pace, hurry up "Let's score and get off the field." Mentality for an offense. Although some may argue that the run game is the way to go. I say go look at the NFL and see how many super bowl winning teams in the last 10 years were run first teams. Probably less than 30%. The fact is that the game of football has changed. Quarter backs are so valuable now-a-days that they have rules against hitting them in certain places, they wear red jerseys at practice so they don't get hit and they get paid the big bucks.
